Vivian – 18 Months

_DSC0390

Woah! It’s been a while. So much has been going on these days. Vivian, of course, is growing up way too fast! I mean it feels like it was just yesterday that we were throwing her her 1st Birthday. I’m not even sure where to begin. Let’s start with the basics. She weighs around 24ish lbs. and comes up to my hips (she may have a chance of being taller than me!!!).  She loves watching Paw Patrol and “Elmo”. She is the most loved little girl in the whole entire world.

IMG_7463

MILESTONES
Vivian walks. Everywhere. If we are at Target, Fleet Farm, or Kohls she MUST walk or she will throw a fit.

She throws tantrums. I’m a bad mom and end up laughing at her because for some odd reason I find them funny.

She is a fantastic eater. She can use a spoon and a fork like a pro.

She brushes her hair every day. She also brushes her teeth.

She “reads” to me every night. And she will point out pictures.

So many teeth, even molars!

She is able to put words together.

IMG_7346

EATING/FOOD
Vivian pretty much eats everything. Except tacos. She loves Chicken Nuggets, Mac n Cheese, Grilled Cheese, Applesauce, GoldFish and GoGurt.. Oh and how could I forget CHEESE. String Cheese. The expensive kind. She wont eat the cheap stuff. A true Wisco Girl.

_DSC0406

VOCABULARY
Vivian’s Vocabulary is ever growing. She can say so many words. Here is a sample:

  • Daddy
  • Momma
  • Kitty
  • Ruby
  • Blankie
  • NO
  • Hi
  • Elmo
  • Two
  • Three
  • Shoes
  • Socks
  • Night Night
  • Uh-Oh
  • Oh-No
  • Cheese
  • and so many more.

IMG_7401

PLAYING & LEARNING
Vivian still loves to read. We read at lease 1 book every night before bed.

When Ben and I get Vivi a yogurt out of the fridge we close the drawer they are in with our feet, so naturally Vivian must do as we do. She obviously isn’t able to close the drawer but it is adorable watching her try.

She loves to pretend to Cook in her kitchen that she got for Christmas. Tonight she brought me a cup with a fake potato in it. It was delicious.

I’m pretty sure she can use my phone better than I can. She knows her way around the PBS and Nick JR apps.

IMG_7460

DAYCARE
Vivian officially moved up to the Toddler room. She is excited to go every morning. We bring a yogurt for her and when we arrive she walks in her room and says “HI Guys”. Another change is that in January Vivian began going FULL TIME. I thought she would have an issue with it but she transitioned so well. Super proud mom right here.

They do all types of fun things at daycare. They go for walks, play dress up, play with friends, have music class and art class. Sometimes I wish I could spend my day at daycare.

IMG_7194

THE PAST 6 MONTHS IN A NUTSHELL
Alright here is the run down of the past 6 months.

Halloween: Vivian went as a Basic white girl to daycare the Friday before. Oh Halloween we went as a witch. She helped us hand out candy to all of the trick or treaters that came by.
Thanksgiving: We stayed in Oshkosh for Thanksgiving because Ben had to work. So we got to relax at home and it was really nice.
Christmas: A very busy time for us. We celebrated Christmas eve with Grandmy and Grandpy Greenwood and the Greenwood Family. We also stopped by Great Grandpa Benesh’s and saw all of the great aunts and uncles. Christmas Day we spent time with Grandma B and Great Grandma Hahn and everyone up north. She made out like a bandit. She got a kitchen, cute clothes, a bunch of toys and books, Peppa Pig, a Farm play set, and soooo much more.

Other than that its been pretty relaxed around here. Every day is an adventure with Vivian. We just end up rolling with the punches with our toddler.

IMG_7291

THE WONDER WEEKS
Vivian has passed the 10th leap in her mental development!!! Right now she is in the World of Systems. She is beginning to develop a conscience. She is also developing her notion of self. She thinks in terms of “me, me, me”

Her thoughts and behaviors after this leap:

  • “me and my body”
  • I have control over my body
  • I can do it myself
  • I have my own will
  • I can decide for myself
  • i want power
  • She is just naughty to show ” I do what I want when I want.  So what are you going to do about it”
  • She grasps that mom and dad are individuals who lead their own lives.
  • She can console others
  • She understands that she is part of an extended family and wants to see grandmas and grandpas.
  • She learns the rules of what belongs to whom and what she is entitled to
  • She creates drawings that represent something from the real world
  • She starts to develop a sense of time now. She has better memory of past events and can anticipate future events.
  • She shows an impressive increase in the comprehension of words spoken around her and starts to speak more words.

Vivian – 1 Year

_DSC0459

A lot can change in a year. You get a new job, settle into a house you bought, oh yeah and your baby girl turns 1!!!! (I don’t want this post to be too sappy.)

“Happy birthday to baby! It’s perfectly normal for parents to feel a mixture of pride at seeing how far you’ve come and sadness at how quickly your little one has gone from baby to toddler. Enjoy your day together — this is the beginning of an exciting new stage in both of your lives.”

I got that gem from the Bump and it couldn’t express my feelings more perfectly! Ben and I are so excited to have reached this milestone! Vivian is thriving and we couldn’t be more proud of her, and of ourselves for making it this far (and we haven’t gone insane!!!). But on the other hand last night before we put her to bed we both took a bit of time with her to cherish those last moments before she turned one. I know the cuddles won’t change, and she will still slap me in the face right before she falls asleep in my arms, and require me to play with her hair a bit, but she is ONE now.  It just felt like it was something we had to do. Vivian enjoyed it, she got double the snuggles before bed!

IMG_6628

MILESTONES
These days Vivian has no problem standing up. There have been a few occasions she has stood on her own! She still isn’t walking on her own yet, and that is okay. I’m not ready for that.

She is eating by herself. She no longer needs any assistance from us when it comes to food. If we offer to help her she will scream at us, push the spoon/fork away and do it herself.

She knows how a phone works, and what to do with a hairbrush and a toothbrush.

She will also turn the pages in her books.

Still only 2 teeth, but I can feel her top two coming in

 IMG_6671

SLEEP
We are officially down to 1 nap during the day. She will usually sleep from 12:15 to 3 or 3:30pm. And for the most part she sleeps through the night! She mostly sleeps on her stomach with her butt in the air! It’s so cute. I can try to get a picture, but I can’t guarantee anything!

 IMG_6731

EATING/FOOD
NO MORE PUREES!!! Vivi eats what we eat for the most part. If Ben and I are eating Chili for dinner we will let her try a bit and if she isn’t into it I will dig out some fruit, chicken nuggets, and green beans or some other veggie for her. For the most part Vivian is a carb girl. She loves noodles and bread, which is why I try to give her the fruits/veggies and protein first and then the carbs. But it doesn’t always work like that.

She has moved up to the Gerber “Graduates” formula. She still gets 3-4 bottles a day. 2 of them come in the form of a sippy cup, one at daycare and one for dinner. I am working on slowly cutting out 2 bottles from her day. So she will be getting 1 at breakfast, one and lunch, and either at dinner or right before bed.

We will now be starting the transition to cow’s milk. This is super exciting to me. I will be saving approximately $90 a month by not buying formula!!!

 IMG_6481

TALKING
Vivian has a growing vocabulary. She knows a handful of words and the rest is just babble. Sometimes I can make out random real words in the babble, but then never hear them again. The little stories she tells a just so precious. She will look at me all serious and just babble for a few minutes, when she stops I ask her a question and she will keep on going.

Words Vivi knows and uses:

  • “Hi”’
  • “Bye”
  • “Kitty” (giggy)
  • “Puppy”
  • “Mumma”
  • “Dada”
  • “Uh-Oh”
  • “No”

IMG_6526

PLAYING & LEARNING
When my phone rings she will look at it and say “HI”

She is in love with patty cake and finding her “piggies”

She loves books

She likes to put things into containers, but she won’t put her toys away

She carries her Peppa Pig suffed animal around with her pretty much everywhere she goes

She is no longer afraid of the grass

She loves “selfie” mode on my iPhone, she could talk to herself for hours

When she drops something (accidental or on purpose) she will say “Uh-Oh”

She loves to go into my Tupperware cabinet and take out all of the containers and then carry one around

 IMG_6565

DAYCARE
Vivian is enjoying being the oldest in her class. She is still in infant II. She will be moving up to Toddler I in about a month or so they said. Although on Wednesday they gave her a trial run in the Toddler room because the baby room had an extra little one that day, and since she is the oldest she got to go play with the big kids. From what I was told she wasn’t a big fan. It could have been that it was new people and she was tired. Eh, she will get there and she will do great when she does get to move up!

She loves arts and crafts day. Her teacher told me she likes to have her hand painted. Weirdo :)

She loves the food she gets to eat, too.

 IMG_6447

THIS PAST MONTH IN A NUTSHELL
This month has been a much healthier one! We have been trying to get outside a much as possible.

We have gone to High Cliff State Park and took a walk around, and then went and played on the playground. Vivian got to go down the slide for the first time, which she loved, and she also got to swing, which is her favorite!

We also did Drive for a Cure at the beginning of the month. We got to ride around in some fun cars.

On Labor Day weekend we went to visit Jason. We went for a hike at Rib Mountain, ate at HuHot, went shopping, played Clue, and played with his dog Chloe.

And we went to the farmers market a couple of times.

IMG_6458

THE WONDER WEEKS
Vivian is still in the leap of Sequences. She will learn to recognize and manage the flow of events and relationships over time. Eating cereal with a spoon, for example, means grab the spoon, put the spoon into the bowl, scoop some cereal onto the spoon, bring the spoon to your head, and put it in your mouth not your eyes. She will link actions together to reach a goal. At this stage your baby likes to feel needed and will want to help. Some skills she might gain during this leap are:

  • Answer simple questions. Example: How big are you? And she will raise her arms
  • Says “hum” if she wants another bite
  • Points at things, people, or animals if you ask her to
  • Put together a simple puzzle of 3 pieces
  • Understand that she has to talk into the mouthpiece of a phone
  • Stacks rings onto the ring pyramid
  • Points where to go
  • Repeats a game
  • Tries to persuade me to help her with things she really could have done without my help
  • Imitates two or more gestures that I make, one after the other
  • Tries to put her sock on by herself but doesn’t succeed

Vivian – 11 Months

_DSC0415

We are just 1 month away from Vivian’s first birthday. And so much has changed over the course of this last year. Keeping up with Vivian, who is now, moving about with ease — and getting into everything! If she sees and can reach it; its hers. Taking her photo is becoming harder and harder. She has so much interest in the camera and making the chair rock. After her next one we will have to move it. :)

IMG_6156

MILESTONES
Vivian is cruising around, these days she is walking (while holding onto my hands for stability) and she can go from toy to toy if she can reach it. She even tries to take a step without me once and a while, but that usually ends in tears. She has also learned how to pull herself up from a sitting position to a standing one! She is also able to open up drawers to take the stuff out!

Still only 2 teeth.

IMG_6321

FOOD
For the past few weeks Vivian has slowly refused to eat purees during certain meals. One day she wouldn’t want her lunch, but would eat her breakfast and dinner. During that time we would add in the foods we were eating during that meal. Well, as of this morning she will be getting normal food at daycare for her breakfast and lunch. She will also be getting normal food at home for dinner. Exciting things.
Foods Vivian Loves:

  • French Fries
  • Strawberries
  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Cheerios
  • Bananas
  • Chicken Nuggets
  • Pork Chops
  • Pierogis
  • Spaghetti
  • Any Type of Noodle
  • Pancakes
  • Bacon
  • Zucchini
  • Pickles
  • Honeydew

IMG_6388

PLAYING & LEARNING
If Vivian is playing with her phone (dead/old phone of Ben’s), and if you say “Vivian? Hello, Vivian are you there?” she will 98% of the time bring the phone up to her ear.

She loves to play patty cake and clap her hands to the beat of music.

She can find her “piggies” (toes) 50% of the time if you ask her where they are.

She has formed a special bond with the pink rainbow care bear. The bear comes with us everywhere.

Her favorite TV show is ‘Peppa Pig’.

She loves to look through books (and chew on them too)

IMG_6289

SLEEP
I’m so excited that she is finally sleeping through the night!!! Although, since she refuses to nap at daycare she will nap from 12:30pm (when we get home) to about 3:00PM and then she will be up until about 9PM and she will sleep until about 6:30AM. It’s not bad but it would be a whole lot easier if she went to bed at like 8. Oh well.

IMG_6153

THIS PAST MONTH IN A NUTSHELL
We have spent a good chunk of time at the doctor’s office this month. First it was pink eye. Then she got a nasty cold and an ear infection and from that she got thrush. Since she was on amoxicillin for her ear infection she developed a rash from it. The rash was NOT an allerergic reaction to the medicine, about 10% of babies develop a rash, and she can still get the amoxicillin. The doctor said that 93% of children that get the rash initially won’t get it again. Explaining that to daycare was rough. I know they are doing their jobs and they do a wonderful job, but when I tell them that I already spoke to nurse direct and her pediatrician (who both said the same thing) and they told me she was fine and it wasn’t an allergic reaction and to let it run its course, I will do what they say. But no I get a call asking to pick up Vivian and take her to the doctor because she is having an allergic reaction. So to the doctor we went and they told me what they have been telling me all along, not an allergic reaction. Dear Daycare, please pay my co-pay now.

We also went to EAA with Vivian to see the night show and fireworks! She loved the airplanes and was in awe the whole time they were flying by. She fell asleep before the fireworks started though so ben and went and watched them as we brought Vivian to the car.

We took Vivian to her first Waterfront Festival in Menominee. We listened to the band and she danced the whole time. She loves the musical stylings of The Beach Boys.

_DSC0376

Sometimes I just sit and wonder… How did we get so lucky to be at this point in our lives? Ben and I have been together for 9.5 years, married for 4, and we have a beautiful little girl. What would have happened if we didn’t meet at Anchor, or have several classes together at UW Marinette? What if he went to Michigan Tech instead of UW Marinette? Thankfully we don’t have to worry about the ‘what ifs’.
Life is pretty great. Vivian is busier than ever between teething, scooting, standing, eating, waving, talking, getting into everything, and stalking Java.

IMG_6094

PLAYING & LEARNING
Vivian still loves taking things out of containers. Her favorite by far is the diaper bag. If I set her near it she will scoot on over, look in the bag, and start taking everything out, one item at a time. It’s cute as she is doing it, but once she is done putting the bag back together again is a nightmare.

She loves to play peek-a-boo. She will bring a blanket or her shirt over her face and I’ll ask “where did Vivi go?” and she will whip it down right away and give me a squeal.

Somehow, Vivian learned how to bring a phone up to her ear, too. So now it has become a game. If she has a phone, I’ll make a ringing sound and ask, “Vivi? Vivi are you there? Hello?” and she will bring the phone right up to her ear. OH.M.GEE adorable.

IMG_5950

9 MONTH CHECK UP
Last week we had Vivi’s 9 month check-up. Since Ben got his new job we had to switch from Aurora to Affinity. It was a chore getting everything sent over and set up. I just hope I never have to do it again.
At her check-up we saw Dr.Katsma. She was super nice and had a lot of information for us. Here are her stats:

18lbs (50th Percentile)
27 Inches tall (25th Percentile)

Head: 18.1”

AND Every visit until Vivi turns 5 she will get a book!

Her next appointment is her one year. She will get her round of shots along with a blood draw. I am not looking forward to that.

_DSC0387

MILESTONES
Things are pretty much the same on the talking front. Everyone is DaDa. She says Mamama, uh-oh, giggy, and bah-bah-bah. Just because she isn’t saying many “words” doesn’t mean she doesn’t understand what Ben and I are saying to her. She is just beginning to understand several simple words. Soon we may notice some words or gestures we actually understand, as well as other forms of communication, such as pointing and grunting.
She is still just scooting around. (scooting: Sitting and pulling herself along) I can be in the kitchen making her a bottle and I will turn around and she is right behind me.

She has 2 TEETH!

She pets the animals. (It’s more like slapping, but they don’t complain)

She loves patty cake, and telling me she is “sooo big”

IMG_6059

FOOD
Our doctor gave us the go ahead to try any new food we would like, except cows milk, and honey. We are still doing purees. We are slowly introducing new foods. She loves Puffs, Yogurt Bites, Baby Cheetos (that’s what I call them…), French Fries (with lots of potato filling), Strawberries and Chocolate Custard, Cucumbers, Carrots, Celery, and Cheerios. We have tried: Pancakes, bacon, spaghetti, and some steak and potatoes. She mostly plays with the food, and maybe takes a taste, but doesn’t eat a lot of it.

Vivian has just begun the leap of Sequences. She will learn to recognize and manage the flow of events and relationships over time. Vivian 9 Months + 2 Weeks

_DSC0352

Vivian has officially been out in the world longer than she was in my belly. What a though that is. She is growing up so quickly and learning so much and I am one proud mamma (and a little sad to see my baby grow up).

IMG_5495

PLAYING & LEARNING
Vivian is now able to put things in a container and take them out again. She also enjoys toys with moving parts (things like, knobs, buttons, switches, doors). If I happen to take a toy away from her and she wasn’t finished yet she will voice her displeasure. Usually a loud angry scream. She really seems to enjoy my sunglasses these days.

IMG_5629

VACATION
We went to visit my cousin in California. (hence why the blog is late once again.) I was really worried about traveling with Vivian. My main concerns were feeding her and keeping her entertained during the 4 hour flight out there. Also, there were many hours worrying about going through security, the time change, how she would sleep, changing her diaper on the plane… and the list goes on.
We flew Southwest and they were amazing. Unfortunately both of our flights were FULL so there wasn’t really any room to spread out. Other than that she did AWESOME. We were on the 10:30AM flight out there and she slept the first hour and forty-five minutes. When she woke up she ate, and played and spent a lot of time looking out the window and playing with the seat tray. The trip back was a bit more work. Someone (me) booked a 6:00AM (pacific time) flight back… Ugh. She was cranky for a bit of the flight but we made it through without any major meltdowns.
We had so much fun while we were out there. We went to Santa Cruz and played in to ocean and walked on the boardwalk, and we spent the majority of time in the San Francisco area! So much FUN!!!!

I am no longer afraid of traveling with Vivi!!! Next Vacation??? Maybe Disney next year!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_5550

MILESTONES
Her babble is slowly (I think) becoming words…

V definitely knows who Ben and I are. Ben is Dadada and so am I. Sometimes when she is upset and I am not near I hear MAMAMAMA??? From the kitchen, but if she is looking at me I am Dadada. She says Giggy/Geeee (kitty) when she sees Java and Snickers. She also is forming sentences with her babble. And some of them end in a question.

She is also able to change pitch when she is squealing. It just keeps getting higher in pitch; Ruby’s ears are getting a workout for sure.

These days Vivian is also able to exaggerate her moods. And this usually happens when she is upset. She goes from “I’m kind of sad” to “OMG WHY ARENT YOU HOLDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!! WAHHHHHHHHHH” And this normally happens at bedtime.

So many cute baby snuggles! I get hugs now and if I ask I get a kiss (if she is in the mood)

We have a mammas girl on our hands. These days it seems like she wants me and only me. Ben will do if I am not around. And I hate to say this but I am mentally and physically exhausted by this.

She scoots.

No crawling or walking yet.

She has 2 TEETH!

IMG_5616

FOOD
Still doing purees. We are slowly introducing new foods. She loves Puffs, Yogurt Bites, Baby Cheetos (that’s what I call them…), French Fries (with lots of potato filling), Strawberries and Chocolate Custard (and some others that I’m not remembering). We will be starting to introduce some meat into her diet soon!

IMG_5512
DAYCARE
Vivi moved up to Infant II this morning. She is in the same room as before but on the other side. Her teachers now are Miss. Debbie, Miss. Linda, and Miss. Kaylee (I think that’s how you spell it). I’m excited and sad at the same time. She is getting too big.

IMG_5578

THE WONDER WEEKS
So after I went back to work a friend introduced me to the Wonder Weeks App. The basis of the app is to help you understand when your baby is going through a “developmental leap.”  There are a total of 10 leaps that babies go through.
Right now she has finished the Categories Leap. She is investigates the world around her and categorize things. Now that  the leap is over some skills she might have gained are:

  • Showing that she knows some words
  • Makes it clear that she finds something dirty (maybe by sniffing)
  • Imitates adults
  • Recognizes herself in a mirror
  • Can exaggerate her moods
  • Play peek-a-boo by herself
  • Challenges others to play a game
  • Calls for a song, for example, by clapping her hands.
  • Begins to practice crawling

Vivian – 8 Months +1.5 Weeks

_DSC0426

Look out world; we have an 8 month old on our hands!!!! We have been super busy since I last posted. Vivian got baptized, we celebrated Mother’s Day, on Saturday’s we go to swimming lessons, we have also been on a bike ride or two, and she is learning new skills!

IMG_5364

It is quite the ride watching a baby grow up, isn’t it? They go from sleeping all the time to these active little people!!! Ben and I were talking about this on a Saturday (in the Menards parking lot of all places).  We got on the topic of how easy it was to take Vivi places when she was an itty bitty (newborn), she mostly slept the whole time. And I remember not wanting to go anywhere because she was sleeping, but what I didn’t realize was that that was the BEST time to go; because she would have slept through it all if I timed it right. Now when we go out to eat she is all over! She wants to play with EVERYTHING (napkins, forks, cups, straws… you name it she wants it!).  I try to bring a whole variety of toys to keep her occupied but it’s a no go. She wants what we have… Even when we go to Target… She wants EVERYTHING!

_DSC0397

BAPTISM
On Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 Vivian was baptized. The day was super, super busy. My parents came for the weekend to help set up (thank God). We did most of the prep work for the party the night before, which was a good call. Sunday morning my mom and I pulled everything together.
Vivian was very good during the Mass. But, the little stinker refused to nap so by the time the baptism started she was getting pretty cranky. But we made it without any sort of meltdown (YES!!!). Then we partied, complete with burgers and brats on the grill and an ice cream cake.
Thanks again to everyone that came! Thank yous will be coming shortly… (I hope…)

IMG_5296

MOTHER’S DAY
We celebrated my 1st Mother’s Day this year!!! We ended up driving to the U.P to see my mom and my grandma for the weekend. Vivian got me the really cute frame and photos. And her and Ben got me a gorgeous ring with Vivian’s September birthstones in it!!! It was a little weird being wished a Happy Mother’s Day, but it was really nice!!!

MILESTONES
The baby babble continues. When I am in the other room I can hear her “talking”.
She is WAVING!!!! Oh my goodness it is so sweet. We will be leaving daycare and we will say “bye bye” and she will wave bye to the ladies at daycare!
She has also started to clap. It doesn’t happen to often but I’ve see it!
She has begun scooting… backwards, but it is scooting nonetheless.
She also likes to stand up with our help.
She is starting to blow bubbles and spit….

SWIMMING LESSONS
Swimming lessons have ended. :( Vivian did so well. I mean she got to spend an hour in the pool, and splash. Not sure if she “learned” how to swim though! :) What we did do though was teach the babies to reach for the wall, kick, splash, blow bubbles, and “jump” up, and use the railing to get into the pool. Basically it was Ben and I that did these things and she just watched. We will be doing it again the next time classes are available.

IMG_5323
DAYCARE
Daycare has been going so well. We are so happy with our choice. Her teachers are wonderful and you can see that they enjoy all of the kids.  Right now Vivian is in the Infant 1 class. They get to play all day long. Today because it was so nice they went for a walk on the River Walk. Pretty soon she will be moving up to the Infant 2 class (there are 2 babies in front of her).

IMG_5347

THE WONDER WEEKS
So after I went back to work a friend introduced me to the Wonder Weeks App. The basis of the app is to help you understand when your baby is going through a “developmental leap.”  There are a total of 10 leaps that babies go through.
Right now she is in the Categories Leap. She is beginning to investigate the world around her and categorize things. Once the leap is over some skills she might have gained are:

  • Showing that she knows some words
  • Makes it clear that she finds something dirty (maybe by sniffing)
  • Imitates adults
  • Recognizes herself in a mirror
  • Can exaggerate her moods
  • Play peek-a-boo by herself
  • Challenges others to play a game
  • Calls for a song, for example, by clapping her hands.
  • Begins to practice crawling

This app has been a lifesaver. Once I see that she is getting more cranky than normal I automatically check the app to see if a Leap is near!

That about wraps it up! Enjoy some photos!

Vivian 7 Months 2 Days

_DSC0360

How is it that I have a 7 month (+2 days) old??? I mean really – where has the time gone??? Can someone tell me, because I clearly have no idea? So much has happened this past month, so get comfy this might be a long one.

Since the weather has been so nice lately Vivian and I have been trying to get outside every day. Most of the time we go for a nice 2 mile walk through Menominee Park. Sometimes we stop and watch birds, or sometimes she falls asleep right away and I’m talking to myself. I would say she enjoys the walks, when I check on her she is always looking around trying to see everything. Such a big world for her to see, and she has only just begun discovering what is in it!!!

We also attended the Baptism class that is through our church. It was a quick and informative 45 minute meeting. Vivian’s Baptism will be Sunday, May 3rd and her Godfather is my brother Jason and her Godmother is our cousin Jessica! We are super excited to have these awesome role models for Vivian.

EASTER CELEBRATIONS

IMG_5121_2
There is nothing like celebrating a first holiday with your baby. Maybe it’s because Vivi is our first child these are the first times we are able to celebrate as a family of 3 instead of just the two of us? {Hopefully we will still be as excited for 1st holidays whenever/if ever a second baby comes along.} Anyways…Vivian’s 1st Easter weekend was a huge success.

IMG_5103_2

Ben and I decided that it was time to start making our own holiday traditions. So we decided to stay in Oshkosh this year, and celebrate Easter at our new home. Since most of my family lives in the U.P. not everyone was able to make it to our house for the holiday, and my parents, brother, and aunt wanted to see Vivian so they came and spent the day with us on Saturday. I cooked lasagna (from scratch) and we had a little get together and caught up. It was a good day with a lot of dishes, but who cares about the dishes when you get to spend time with family, right?

Easter Sunday we went to church (so packed, there was barely any room) in the morning. Afterwards we went home and gave Vivian her Easter basket. Inside her basket she found some bath toys, a book, a Peppa Pig dvd, and some really cute summer/spring clothes!!!! Too frickin’ cute! AHH! So cute in fact that we had to have a mini-photo-shoot with her and her cute basket from Pottery Barn Kids.

_DSC0344

After the photo-shoot we started cooking. On the menu was: Dr. Pepper Ham, Crescent Rolls, Pierogis, and Green Beens with bacon and mushrooms. Nothing too crazy, it was all really simple to make. For desert Kathleen brought a strawberry jello cake/bars.

IMG_5119_2

Not long after we started cooking Kathleen and Brandon arrived! It was awesome to see them both! They took care of V, and gave her her gift while Ben and I finished up the meal. She got a nice little swimming pool for the summer along with some toys!!! She is going to love the pool!!!
After we noshed on the yummy food and desert Vivian and I took a nap while everyone else watched “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” on Netflix. Well, it turns out they loved it so much everyone stayed to finish out the series. Everyone finally left around 8:30ish I think…

All in all a fantastic weekend!

SLEEP
Huston, we have sleep! Vivian has been sleeping through the night for the past month! Granted there were a few nights where she woke up once because of gas or a missing pacifier. But hey it’s really nice to get more than 5 hours of sleep at night! #winning.

EATING
So Vivian has been eating like a champ. We attempted BLW but V had no interest in it so we are doing purees. She is LOVING Bananas. She is HATING on the Peas. And everything in between is okay.
She also loves the Plum teething biscuits and Celery Stalks and Carrot Sticks.
My nursing journey has ended. I felt like I just was producing what Vivian needed and it was stressing me out (which is what probably caused my low supply). So we bit the bullet and started formula. I only have 1 4oz. bag left of pumped milk that she will get before bed tonight and that’s it. I’ll be honest, I felt totally guilty (and still do) for quitting nursing, even though I exceeding my goal of 6 months (I made it 6.5). But I have to keep telling myself that I gave her the best start I could and she is doing great! I must say she has taken to the formula though, and has given me no complaints. As long as she is happy.

MILESTONES

IMG_5175_2

She is sitting up ALL BY HERSELF! Oh my goodness it is the cutest thing. She also has discovered that she can control her hands and bang things together. She is still grabbing things and bringing them to her mouth. So if she can reach it, it will end up in her mouth… guaranteed.

SWIMMING LESSONS

IMG_5201

We started swimming lessons!!!! She loved her first class. Our instructor is a very hippie-ish and nice and all about the energy of the water… Vivian really seemed to like her and that is all that maters.
The basis of the class is getting the babies comfortable with the water. So far so good. V is doing awesome!

And I think that covers it for the past month.

Vivian is 6 Months Old

_DSC0324
It’s hard to believe that Vivian is 6 months old today. Wow. Where has time gone? So much has changed… Sometimes I still feel like I should be pregnant (actually, this time last year I was!) and I should be getting ready for her to arrive. I think I will feel like this for a bit yet. Oh well. I’m not pregnant and she is right here, sleeping in her bouncy chair.

Things that have changed:
She used to fall right asleep, now it seems like its always a battle (no matter what stage of tired she is in…).
She is quite the chunker now… look at that double chin and you should see her leg rolls.
She has started eating some purees
And I’m sure there is a bunch more but I am blanking at the moment.

She is growing up right before our eyes, and I wish she would just slow down a little, and let me savor these precious moments a little bit longer. So much has happened this past month. She is now able to sit up with very little assistance from us and has started eating some food. She is still refusing to roll over though; she gets halfway and then gives up.

IMG_4685_2

SLEEP: I am proud to say that Vivian is pretty much sleeping through the night! Even though she still sleeps mostly in our room, she is sleeping, and I am sleeping so I am one happy and well rested momma! Yay Go US!

IMG_4775_2
EATING: Vivian has also started eating some purees. I know I mentioned doing BLW and we will. I figured we would start with some purees that way she will get those while at daycare and other stuff while she is at home with us. So far we have eaten: Oatmeal, Applesauce, and Sweet Potatoes. Up next we have banana, carrots, peas, and pears. I’m excited to see what she likes!!!
Along with the purees we are still breastfeeding! I have officially hit my 6 month goal. I have a decision to make now. Do I keep going or do I start supplementing some formula?? We’ll see. I have definitely noticed a drop in my supply, so I might end up supplementing.

IMG_4741
MILESTONES: Vivian still hasn’t rolled over, but she is sitting up pretty much by herself!!! She is also developing her conversation skills. She can also grab her feet when she is sitting or laying. She also has started laughing. One of the cutest sounds EVER! Everything that she can grab will end up in her mouth. Like I mentioned above, she is sleeping through the night, and eating things other than breast milk. She loves to stand with our assistance. Has made friends at daycare. And she knows who Ben and I are and where we are.

IMG_4952_2

This month has been a busy one. One weekend we went up north to visit Grandmy n Grandpy Greenwood. We hung out and did some shopping and went out to dinner at The Brothers Three (yum) and Uncle Brandon came over for a movie and lunch!!!

IMG_4766
The following weekend my parents came to Oshkosh to move my brother back home (he got a promotion for the Marinette Menards). We mostly packed and did a little bit of shopping and such… Then on Sunday Grandma Kathleen came to visit with Uncle Brandon, too. We ordered some Chinese and Vivi got a whole lotta lovin.

I think it is awesome that Ben and I live close enough to family that we can just decide to go home for a weekend or have family come and visit us. I love the amount of time Vivian gets to spend with all of  her grandparents, and great grandparents. And Thank goodness for things like facetime and skype so she can see her Aunties, Uncle and Cousins that live out of town.

IMG_4735_2
IMG_4784_2
This past weekend Vivian and I took a trip to IKEA!!! It was Vivi’s first time going there! She did so well on the car ride and the 2 hours we spent in the store! She is such a trooper. She also made out like a bandit. I got her some sippy cups, bowls, and a stuffed carrot that she wont stop trying to eat.

Vivian – 5 Months

_DSC0268

Another month in the books I guess. What I want to know is where did my cute, cuddly, quiet, sleepy baby go? These days she is still cute, but not so cuddly, very loud and obnoxious, and always awake. She is still refusing to roll over…

IMG_4412

This past month we have gotten shots… had a vacation… and have started to go to church.  The shots were a sad day, vacation was fun, and she is doing really well at church.

IMG_4560

Over the past month or so Vivian has really discovered her voice. She has gone from random noises to actual babble. Most of the babble happens with her hands in her mouth. I can sit down and have an almost conversation with her! And when she is not babbling she is squealing…loudly. On some nights I have even been woken up by her little conversations. When that happens I just go back to sleep and let her go.

IMG_4578

Her other new skill is grabbing things and bringing them to her mouth! She will look at something, concentrate really hard, slowly grab it and then quickly bring it up to her mouth. Super cute!!! She is showing interest in food, but isn’t bringing up to her mouth yet. Just looking at it for now.

IMG_4458

Her day time routine is pretty solid. I will wake her up around 6:15AM (sometimes she is already awake!) we go down stairs and have a nursing sesh and when that is done she gets a fresh diaper and I get her dressed. After that I pump and we sit and “talk” for a bit. And then she either goes into the jumparoo or I put her in her bouncy chair with some toys and I will put nickjr on so I can eat breakfast and pack my lunch. She gets dropped off at daycare at 7:45AM. From there she eats around the same time every day, and she gets to do fun activities! She might take an hour nap for them. Maybe… I pick her up at noon and by then she is ready for a good nap. So she takes a good 1.5 – 2 hour nap. She then eats around 2, plays, cat nap. And this continues until about 8PM when we start getting ready for bed. I think it is time to establish a more strict bedtime routine. We have started reading to her before bed, but I think there needs to be more. Any tips on bed time routines would be greatly appreciated.

IMG_4580

She is still getting up once a night to nurse. I’m going to have to do some research on how to wean her at night. This momma needs a good night’s sleep.

IMG_4613

This past month we took a family vacation to The Wilderness at Wisconsin Dells. We went with my parents and brother, and my aunt and her family. The first night we were there we just spent catching up with the family and getting settled in our room. Everyone wanted to play with The Queen V so it was a nice relaxing evening. Then Saturday morning we hit the pool. Oh. My. Goodness. The amount of planning and packing that is involved in getting a baby ready to go to the pool for a few hours is exhausting. After packing up we headed to the pool. We got lost a few times… had to carry the stroller up the stairs several times , we finally made it to the wave pool and Vivian was fast asleep.  -_- Thank goodness for my mom. She watched Vivi while we all went down a few water slides. Once we got back Vivian had just woken up so we brought her to the “big bath tub.” She was very hesitant at first, especially when the waves started coming. But after a while she realized that it was just like bath time, but you get to wear really cute swim suits and you can’t pee in the pool. I like to think that she had fun and would like to go again when she is older :)!

While we were at The Dells we decided that in April we will be enrolling V in some swimming lessons thru the YMCA!!! Exciting!!!

IMG_4663

Vivian also celebrated her first Valentines day. She got mail from Grammy and Grampy Greenwood which she was excited to eat. We went up to Green Bay and went to Costco and then had lunch at Olive Garden and then we went home and just relaxed for the rest of the day.

Vivian – 4 Months

_DSC0249

Queen V is 4 months old today. She is growing up so fast! Every day I tell her that she needs to slow down and to not be in such a rush. Of course she doesn’t listen to me (like mother like daughter). This past month has been quite busy. We celebrated our first Christmas and New Years as a family of 3, had our first two trips to the walk in clinic, and about what seems to be 100 explosive poop diapers.

Vivian’s first Christmas was a busy one. You can read a bit about it and see all the photos for it here. For New Year’s we stayed in. Vivian was in bed by 9:30, and slept through the ball drop. Oh well, maybe we will try for it next year? That might be a mistake though ;). We really loved the holidays, and it was amazing to celebrate them all with Vivian. I can’t wait to establish our own traditions!!!!

Over Christmas we were asked a couple of times when we were going to Baptize Vivi. Our answer: we aren’t sure yet. Here is why. We haven’t found/ had the time to find a church and become members here in Oshkosh, and now we have a newborn whose moods are unpredictable, so there needs to be a cry room. She also is a cat napper, her naps are about 20 minutes tops. We do have a church near our house: Most Blessed Sacrament and we would like to go and give it a try to see how we like it. I want to find a great fit. So Oshkosh people… here is my question to you: What church do you go to? (Ben and I are Catholic.) Once we find a church we will decide on a date. Not to mention we haven’t decided on Godparents yet, there are just too many great options at this point and we can’t agree. *bad catholic mom right here.

Over the past few months Vivian has been developing her digestive system. She used to have a BM every day for the first two months. But starting right around the 3 month mark she started having maybe 2 a week (which is normal). But these 2 a week are crazy. They are so stinky now, and most of the time blow out of her diaper. She has gotten several mid-day baths because of this, which maybe is her plan all along. Ugh, the joys of parenthood.

The night of January 2nd Vivian had a low fever. She had a temp of 100° and was super cranky, after a lot of google-ing we weren’t too concerned at that point, we gave her some acetaminophen and about 15 minutes later she was back to her normal self. Our first thought was that she is teething (we have discovered two little teeth buds). Saturday during the day she was perfectly fine, just a little cranky. Around 4:30pm she felt super warm so we took her temperature again and it was 102.5°. We called the pediatrician that was on call and she said that this was a significant fever, but it was probably her fighting off a bug. She wasn’t vomiting and she didn’t have any diarrhea, and she was eating fine. The doctor said that if we were really concerned we could go to the ER right then, or we could give it a few hours with some acetaminophen and if her fever went down we could wait it out and go to the walk in the next morning. We decided to wait. We took her temp and she was down to 99.8°. Just to be safe we went in any way to make sure her lungs were clear and there were no other issues. The nurse and the doctor just loved her. She was so smiley and cooey. The Doctor said she was congested but her lungs were clear which ruled out influenza and pneumonia (phew), and what she had was probably viral, but if her fever came back we should follow up with our pediatrician. I am really glad we went in, even though we had to sit with the influenza people, and I got to wear a sexy mask because I don’t need the flu. There was a point in there that I was super scared, but thank God for the doctors at Aurora, they are amazing, and really put me at ease.

IMG_4382

And this past week Vivi has gotten another cold (her and I are just passing them back and forth I guess). She has a cough and is pretty congested. So we purchased the NoseFrida – The Snot Sucker. Oh my goodness that thing is just amazing. Last night got pretty bad where it sounded like she was haivng trouble breathing, so we brought her in again today, and like we thought it is just a cold. I’m just paranoid because this flu season is so bad, and other things like pneumonia etc.

IMG_4216

In my 3 month blog post I mentioned that Vivian was only waking up once during the night for a feeding and was sleeping well. Well… I spoke too soon. We are back to 2-3 nighttime feedings. We are still keeping to the routine of putting her to bed by 10pm at the very latest. This can be from either 1 or two things. She isn’t getting enough to eat from me anymore, or she is going through a growth spurt / developmental leap. I’ll tell you one thing for sure, this momma is tired.

We have started putting her in her room to start the night off. Once she wakes up for her first feeding I go and get her and then she spends the rest of the night in her bassinet in our room, because I am lazy. It’s a start though.

IMG_4389

For Christmas Santa got her a jumparoo. And she loves it. There is a frog on one of the sides and she just sits there and “talks” to it. Every now and then she gets really excited, and will squeal and jump. That frog must tell really good stories.

She loves to sit up right (with our help or with the help of the bumbo). She still loves her some tummy time. She rolled over for us one morning while we were relaxing in bed. It was super exciting. Once we put her on the floor for tummy time to see if she would do it again, it was a no go. She is getting there, though! Soon, I think!

For the past few weeks we have been putting Nick JR. on for her. She really likes to eat her hands and watch the bright colors.

4 Months of nursing down. 2 to go! And we are now starting to introduce textures and smells of our food to Vivian. So far she seemed very interested in our Chinese take-out and spaghetti noodles (she grabbed one of the noodles and took a taste even). I’m thinking she will be moving on to normal foods soon, if not then at 6 months. Ben and I have decided that we are going to give Baby Led Weaning (BLW) a try. Baby Led Weaning, quite simply, means letting your child feed themselves from the very start of weaning. You just hand them the food in a suitably-sized piece and if they like it they eat it and if they don’t they won’t. No purees, no ice cube trays, no food processor, no potato masher, no baby rice, no weird fruit and veg combos… just you and your child, eating food that you enjoy with you and your family. She will still get breast milk along with this, until my stock pile is gone.

Other than that the month has been low key. At the beginning of the month Grandma Kathy came by for a visit, and dinner. Vivi had lots of things to tell her. And then Grammy and Grandpy Greenwood and Uncle Jay Jay came to visit for the Packers game last week.

Lets hope the next month will be filled with less visits to the walk in clinic and more sleep!
